Image fusion with nonsubsampled contourlet transform and sparse representation

چکیده
Image fusion combines several images of the same scene into a fused image, which contains all important information. Multiscale transform and sparse representation can solve this problem effectively. However, due to the limited number of dictionary atoms, it is difficult to provide an accurate description for image details in the sparse representation–based image fusion method, and it needs a great deal of calculations. In addition, for the multiscale transform–based method, the low-pass subband coefficients are so hard to represent sparsely that they cannot extract significant features from images. In this paper, a nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) and sparse representation–based image fusion method (NSCTSR) is proposed. NSCT is used to perform a multiscale decomposition of source images to express the details of images, and we present a dictionary learning scheme in NSCT domain, based on which we can represent low-frequency information of the image sparsely in order to extract the salient features of images. Furthermore, it can reduce the calculation cost of the fusion algorithm with sparse representation by the way of nonoverlapping blocking. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms both the fusion method based on single sparse representation and multiscale decompositon. © The Authors. Fusion of Thermal Infrared and Visible Images Based on Multi-scale Transform and Sparse Representation
Due to the differences between the visible and thermal infrared images, combination of these two types of images is essential for better understanding the characteristics of targets and the environment. Thermal infrared images have most importance to distinguish targets from the background based on the radiation differences, which work well in all-weather and day/night conditions also in land s...

متن کاملMedical Image Fusion by Combining Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform and Sparse Representation
In this paper, we present a novel medical image fusion method by taking the complementary advantages of two powerful image representation theories: nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) and sparse representation (SR). In our fusion algorithm, the NSCT is firstly performed on each of the pre-registered source images to obtain the lowpass and high-pass coefficients. Then, the low-pass bands a...

Multimodal medical image fusion plays a vital role in clinical diagnosis and treatment planning. In the image fusion methods based on nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) and pulse coupled neural network (PCNN), authors have used normalized coefficient value to motivate the PCNN-processing, which makes the fused image blurred, detail loss and decrease in contrast. In this paper, we present...
متن کاملFusion of Panchromatic and Multispectral Images Using Non Subsampled Contourlet Transform and FFT Based Spectral Histogram (RESEARCH NOTE)
Image fusion is a method for obtaining a highly informative image by merging the relative information of an object obtained from two or more image sources of the same scene. The satellite cameras give a single band panchromatic (PAN) image with high spatial information and multispectral (MS) image with more spectral information. The problem exists today is either PAN or MS image is available fr...
